I find that very interesting.
It begs the question: At what point are we willing to sacrifice our security in order to protect our privacy? Think this through with me for a moment, because this is going to go far beyond any TSA security scan (or pat down if you refuse the scan), this goes into the depths of the way we think and feel about the power of our modern government. How much intervention in our lives do we feel is too much? What are you willing to give up in the name of security for you and your family?
We Americans have always been a risky lot; living in harsh environments, investing in risky ventures, playing risky sports, and taking chances as entrepreneurs when the odds are clearly stacked against most businesses every getting past the first five years. It seems, however, that we have gradually changed as a nation. We want to be risky, but we also want a net under us in case we fall.
For many, that net is the good ole’ United States Government!
We have all kinds of nets set in place to catch us if we fall from different plateaus. If we grow old without a wise investment strategy, we have Social Security to keep us from starving. If we fail at our jobs, we have unemployment, welfare, food stamps, and lately, if we find ourselves socked too far in debt to afford health insurance, we have a new program where the government is going to make you buy it anyway! There are several more fail safes that allow us to exist without the fear of failure, but at what price? When will there be too many programs? When will the government involve themselves in our lives to the point that we become uncomfortable and begin to push back? When will we decide that our security blankets are beginning to smother us? When will we decide that we are giving so much money to our “Nanny State” that we can no longer afford to live as free individuals?
For many, that day has already come.
The grumblings of the last two elections should be a clear shot across the bow to the “Powers that Be”. Are they beginning to hear the refrains from the old toast from John Stark circa 1809 “Live free or die: Death is not the worst of evils”?
The next revolution is in November, 2012….don’t miss it!
As far as the TSA and flight security…..hey, go nuts guys! I’d rather be embarrassed for a few seconds than end up a human missile plummeting towards a skyscraper with a Muslim zealot at the controls screaming “Death to America”! As far as being “patted down” by a nanny state that wants to take what I have worked for and redistribute it as THEY see fit….well….that’s a bit too close guys…..your hands are where they aren’t supposed to be….and your scanners are seeing things that you simply do not have any business viewing. If you want to protest something, give the airport guys a break….you have bigger fish to fry!
I leave you with a quote from Thomas Jefferson,
“When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.”
Keep the Faith people!!!
